Women's Wellness is a labor of love and purpose for the Founder, Dr. Carol (Labor), a SURVIVOR of complex trauma including sexual assault and a traumatic brain injury at the age of three, Dr. Carol isn't supposed to be alive, but she is and has made mental health and wellness for women and girls her life's work.
As an African woman with a lived experience of major depression, Dr. Carol is an advocate and subject-matter expert on mental health in low resourced communities. She serves as the Vice-Chair of Africa CDC’s High-Level Advisory Committee on NCDs and Mental Health, Board member of African Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and a Rotarian.
Dr. Carol has over 3 decades of people -centered expertise in the United States and the Global South. As a MHPSS Practitioner, she pioneers multisectoral wellness programs and conducts impactful research at the intersection of gender, mental health, and trauma.
Dr. Carol uses a trauma-informed
pedagogy to design scalable interventions that support the mental wellbeing of vulnerable populations inclusive of Black women and girls; the disabled, Black women and girls living with HIV; and survivors of SGBV. Dr. Carol's global reach includes women and girls from countries including, but not limited to Sierra Leone, Liberia, Haiti, Ghana, Turkey, Syria, China, Jamaica, Mexico, Iraq, Rwanda, Kenya, South Africa, England, and the United States.
