The need for skilled, compassionate, and innovative Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) professionals has never been greater. Across communities, workplaces, schools, humanitarian settings, and health systems, rising levels of trauma, gender-based violence, displacement, disasters, and social inequities continue to outpace the availability of trained professionals. At the same time, stigma, limited resources, and fragmented systems underscore the urgent need for a new generation of leaders who can transform how MHPSS is designed and delivered. Globally, mental, neurological, and substance use (MNS) conditions account for a growing share of the burden of disease, yet many regions have fewer than one mental health worker per 10,000 people (WHO). Beyond diagnosed conditions, millions more experience psychological distress and require accessible, community-based mental health and psychosocial support that existing systems often do not provide.
The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Certified Professional™ (MHPSS-CP™) Program at the Women’s Wellness Institute is a globally recognized certification designed to close this gap. It equips multisectoral professionals to deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered MHPSS across diverse settings. Grounded in global standards such as the IASC Guidelines and informed by public health, neuroscience, and implementation science, the program strengthens both practice and leadership in the evolving MHPSS field.
Through interactive learning, case studies, simulations, and applied practice, participants develop practical competencies to design, implement, and lead sustainable MHPSS interventions before, during, and after crises. The program emphasizes cross-sector collaboration, system strengthening, and expanding access to care, with a focus on women and girls across the life course. It responds to the global workforce gap by building a cadre of professionals equipped to strengthen resilience, support recovery, and advance mental wellbeing in both emergency and non-emergency contexts.
The MHPSS-CP™ is an accredited, globally recognized executive and continuing education certification. Upon meeting all the program requirement and successful completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and join a global network of MHPSS practitioners committed to advancing quality, equity, and access in mental health and psychosocial support. Using a public health approach, the program strengthens the capacity of multisectoral professionals to deliver integrated and sustainable MHPSS services. Grounded in the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Guidelines for both emergency and non-emergency settings, it bridges global standards with practical, multisectoral competencies.
The MHPSS-CP™I is designed with and for multisectoral professional individuals and equips them with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to deliver high-quality, evidence-based MHPSS and wellness interventions for women and girls across diverse global contexts. Bringing together practitioners, policymakers, academics, and researchers, the program offers a comprehensive training and professional development continuum. Ultimately, it addresses critical global workforce gaps while elevating standards in the growing and essential field of MHPSS.
